Doctor, others mutilate 13-month-old baby’s corpse

The police in Ogun State yesterday said they had arrested a medical doctor and three others suspected to be ‘ritualists’ for mutilating the corpse of a 13-month-old baby in a hospital at Sango-Ota in Ado-Odo/ Ota Local Government.

The suspects, Oguntunde Opeyemi, Olaide Adeyanju and Temitope Muraina, were said to have connived with the owner of Ajike Medical Centre situated at Adeyeni Street, Dr. Babawale Funsho Joshua, to mutilate the corpse of the boy, Kingsley Ole, who died in the hospital last Saturday. Kingsley’s father, Mr. Obinna Ole, said his son had been on admission at the hospital for an ailment before he eventually died on June 8 about 7: 30pm.
The story, however, changed when Ole went to claim the corpse of his baby as he discovered that the two eyes, tongue, lips, ears, the penis, nails and the left handvein of the boy had been removed.
Briefing newsmen on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the policemen attached to Ota Divisional headquarters led by the DPO, Gabriel Dibie, arrested the suspects. Adejobi disclosed that the corpse had been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital for autopsy, while the state Commissioner of Police, Ikhemefuna Okoye, had ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, to take over the case.
